Dear Ms. Sevenau, Ms. Thompson, and Mr. Clemens,

I found your website most interesting, but it did not have any information on Norman Chatfield (1803 – 1864). As you can see from my address below, I live at Chatfield, Texas which was named for him. No history of our community has ever contained a picture of Norman Chatfield. Do you have one or know of someone who may have one along with any biographical material?

Also, could you put me in contact with Laurel Clayson, whose book you note on the website? Norman Chatfield is one of the children of Silas and Rachel.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

Descended from Joel Chatfield and Ruth Stoddard through Joel Raymond Chatfield (and Mary Tomlinson) – their daughter Charlotte Frances Chatfield (and Jared T. Kimberly) – my great grandparents. I inherited a few sterling pieces from my mother engraved with Chatfield initials, so reading your Chatfield history is of great interest. Thank you for sharing your research.

Bernadette Magno-Popa February 9, 2015 at 3:35 pm

Hello, my name is Bernadette Magno-Popa. I am married to Brian John Popa, Grandpa Enoch Pearson’s grandson. Enoch Pearson’s full name is Mauritz Enoch Pearson Ahlstrom. Sander Sigfrid Pearson is his older brother and the first wife’s name is Elizabeth Ainge.
B: 27 Dec 1885, Sweden
D: 15 Jun 1977, Santa Monica, CA, USA
Parents: Nils Persson Ahlstrom and Augusta Petersson, both from Sweden
Sibling: Maurits Enoch Pearson Ahlstrom

My husband’s older cousins mentioned that just like some immigrants, they changed their last name to be more Americanized. In Grandpa Enoch’s case, since Sander was already established in the United States, he opted to just follow the last name that he already used to migrate.

We are based in Newbury Park, CA. My sister is a Philippine Genealogist and there’s not much to be done in my side of the family so I have been tracing my husband’s family history. I am glad that I was able to stumble on his connection to your family.

Best regards,
Bernadette Magno-Popa

Hi
My grandfather is Thomas Benton Copple and his brother was William G Copple. I just recently restarted a genealogy research for my family and in a discussion with my older brother, Don, he mentioned that another Copple like my grandfather had a blacksmith shop in Ottumwa.
I noticed that in your narrative about Grant Copple, William G’s son, that he also had a blacksmith shop in Ottumwa. Do you have any further information about where Grant’s blacksmith shop might have been located in Ottumwa. My older brother thought it was in the East end and that that blacksmith shop had a very prominent ad painted on the side of a building in downtown Ottumwa, something to the effect of Copple’s Blacksmith Shop.
You have a great site and I came across it when I did a google search for “Copple Blacksmith Shop, Ottumwa, Iowa”. My grandfather’s shop did not come up so I need to now find out what the name of his shop was.
I also found a notice in the Ottumwa Courier where William L Copple’s blacksmith shop in Agency was damaged in an 1918 fire. If you are interested I can send you a copy of that article from the newspapers.
Thank you,
Frank

I descend from Elizabeth Nettleton, dau. of Amos Nettleton of Rev. War, Dutchess County, NY,Militia, Regiment 2.

Elizabeth married Daniel Canfield, Rev. War, same regiment as Amos

Elizabeth and Daniel had a daughter Mary who married Henry Schoonover in Randolph County, Va. 1801.

Catherine Sevenau – I have been researching the Sevenach (Sevenoak) surname in England as it goes into my Gaylord/Treat/Canfield/Pierson/Schoonover lineages.

I have included your postings here with the history I am tring to build for the Nettletons.

Thanks for your work
cousin Margaret
